Minecraft essay

Minecraft, is a cross-platforming, multiplayer sandbox with infinite replayability. There are many amazing aspects to the minecraft franchise including; the strong community, unrestricted genre,  platform agnostic and the overall unlimited creativity of the game. Minecraft has sold over 154 million copies in 2018 and has made over $2 billion.

Minecraft was started in the summer of 2009 by Markus Persson. Originally, it was a basic game which incorporated features from games such as Dwarf Fortress and Infiniminer. Persson's started charging £8 to download the game and ended up selling 40 copies in his first week. Eventually, a community started building when people wanted too know more information about the game. The game was intentionally left incomplete in order to be updated and improved overtime. Markus released new updates every weekend in order to 'hype up' his audience resulting in more people gaining interest in the game. Consequently, the game became more popular overtime and Markus (or Notch) became a celebrity with over 600,000 followers.

Famous YouTube Ali-A who has 16 million subscribers earns £3 million a year from making gaming videos, with Minecraft being the most popular. He started posting in 2009 and began creating Minecraft videos by popular demand. Now, he makes 3 videos a day for his channels and has a huge fanbase and is very successful in his field.

Microsoft purchased Mojang in 2014 for a total of $2.5 billion after rejecting many buyers before that. MInecraft was Purchases for three main reasons; money, audience (fanbase), and control. Conspiracy’s have risen suggesting that Microsoft purchased Minecraft in order to have an ‘edge’ against companies like sony. Consequently, this has greatly improved minecraft as an overall game with more money being put into it in order to please the fans.

Minecraft is a platform agnostic meaning it is a crossplatfroming game. It can be played on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation and PSP, all ranging at different prices. The main platform version of minecraft or the Java edition, playable on windows, Mac and Linux is £20. Bedrock edition minecraft for Windows 10 is also £20. Pocket edition (playable on android and apple devices) is £5. Finally, Minecraft for the PS4 costs £15.

Radio 1 practical

Evaluation:

What went well:

  • We had a zesty intro, which had lots of enthusiasm to fit the genre of the breakfast show.
  • Our links and mentions about the Radio 1 social media and phone number was clearly addressed.
  • The vast use of appropriate jingles.
  • The call to a audience member was clear and understandable with a clear script.
Even Better if:
  • Repetition was quite evident, therefore we could put more planning into the script if we completed this task again.
  • The voice was to happy and enthusiastic when we were talking about the serious news (murders)
  • No link to the song Bohemian Rhapsody, there could be a clear link to the new film.
  • Both presenters read the weather and news which typically doesn't happen, therefore next ti me if only one presenter was present the problem wouldn't arise.
  • No clear positive relationship/general conversation was present between the two performers.
