Boyz n da hood

D- in this clip we see ordinary school children of the 80's walking to school in their rough beaten up area. there are stray dogs everywhere, rubbish they even visit a crime scene. At school we see that despite their rough upbringing one of the children Tre is highly intelligent.
S- whilst walking through 'the hood' (a ghetto area or slum- a place of poverty) we see
many stray dogs and a lot of liter on the floor suggesting that this is a particularly poor area. not only that but the children visit a crime scene where there are bullet wholes through a poster and blood on the floor. the fact that young children or primary school ages can see that is horrific as well as the fact that its literally down their road. The school seems like your average school however there are some disturbing drawings on the wall obviously drawn by the children such as a coffin further suggesting that this place -despite being a school- isn't free from the crime on the outside.
T- the themes for this scene include violence and empathy for the characters
I- The cane is a particularly significant prop as it shows power. at first the teacher has the cane showing that she has the authority however when Tre becomes the teacher he gets given the cane passing the power over to him.
N- There is no narration, the audience have to work out whats happening themselves rather than being told.
C- the main characters are the young group of friends - two boys and two girls- however the main character is Tre (the older boys of the group.
T-

M- for the majority of the scene there is no music just realistic noises
C- although there is very little music at the points where there is music its parallel.
D- dietetic, its all real noises
O- the majority of the sounds is on screen however we do hear things such as sirens and gunshots
V- there is no voice over except for at the beginning where we hear people talking whilst there is text on the screen we hear children yelling ad adults crying.
E-
D- there is dialogue through out the clips - but not narration- so the audience understand whats happening.

S- the children particularly Tre has the most screen time
T- realistic transitions
O- chronological
P- all at a regular pace
S- gunshots

C-80's clothes
L- outdoor/ realistic lighting
A-children
M- no make up
P- the stop sign is a key prop as its a subliminal message telling people that rasism and discrimination has to literally stop
S- a ghetto hood (poor area)

Ghost ship

GENRE
D- Pink opening credits suggesting its going to be a romantic film
S- The setting is on a 1960's cruise ship where death is almost inevitable-there's no way out
T- Murder, violence and loneliness
I- Key icons include the wine glasses as they are the first things we see fall once the wire has cut.
N- There is no narration during this scene and the audience have to infer from context what's happening
C- Mains characters include the little girl dressed in white), the singer (dressed in red) and the crew member who we suspiciously see winking at the singer
T- From the camera shots at the beginning the audience think its going to be a nice, possible romantic film. However, when the camera switches shots and everything goes quite grey almost like its luring us into a false sense of security

CAMERA
F- There were a lot of long shots during the opening of the scene and very soft cuts. However, once the wire has killed everyone there are a lot of quick harsh cuts to show everyone dying and their dead bodies.
A- when the wire is going through the bodies we get to see a up close shot of the wire and are rushed along as it travels almost like we are the wire. This along with us seeing the 'killer' flip the lever suggests that we are going to see a lot from the antagonists point of view and that it could be their story were going to follow.
M-

MISE EN SCENE
C- Passengers all dressed up. The little girl is wearing white symbolises innocence and purity suggesting that she's going to be the protagonist of the story. The singer is wearing red suggesting that she's going  to be the antagonist of the story as red has connotations of evil and danger.
L- Warm lighting at the beginning, turns cold when we see the 'killers' point of view suggesting his or hers cold Personality
A- The main actors in this scene include the singer who we see a lot both on screen and off screen as she is creating the music that we hear as the audience and the little girl.
M- The adults- who are the ones that are inevitable going to get killed- are all dressed up and wearing a lot of makeup.
P- There are a few key props such as the wine glasses. these a re key as the are one of the first things that falls and breaks once being cut by the wire therefore showing the audience what's happened to the passengers.
S- The setting for this scene is a boat which gives the story an ominous feel once a lot of the passengers die as the boat is surrounded by water hinting to the audience that there is no way out and that the characters that are alive will be stuck on this 'death boat' for a while
SOUND
M- Romantic orchestral music- lots of strings.
C- the majority of sound we hear at the beginning is parallel (it goes along with the scene) however when the scene starts to become more ominous and mysterious the music - although it stays the same- It juxtaposes the scene.
D- all the music we hear is dietetic from the glass breaking to the live singer.
O- a lot of the music we hear comes from the performer on stage however there are moments where we can hear the music but the camera is on something's else I.e. The little girl in white or the lever.
V- no voice over
E- the music for this scene makes the atmosphere more ominous and weird making us as the audience feel more unsafe and disturbed
D- very little is being said we only hear background noises

EDITING
S- the little girl and the singer get the majority of the screen time suggesting that they are going to play main roles
T- realistic
O- everything is chronological
P- there are only a few slow motions shots which gives a closer view to the gore we can already see
S- people getting chopped in half

Intro to media

HOME
I like this because of the amazing animations used by DreamWorks (the production company). Its incredible to see the amount of detail that went into the smallest things. As well as that the plot for the story is very captivating due to the emotion you experience when watching this movie.

Semiotics Analysis of a TV poster

In this poster the main cast are all standing on a mound of laptops. The characters at the front are higher up on the mound suggesting that they are the more important characters. All the characters except one are in geeky clothes suggesting that they are the intelligent ones meaning the one in stereotypically 'normal' clothing is less intelligent. Furthermore this character also happens to be blonde and therefore could also be stereotyped as a 'dumb blonde'. However, the character Bernadette, placed on the far left, also happens to be blonde which contradict the stereotypical 'dumb blonde' due to her being in Geeky clothes as well.
By the cast being placed on a on a pile of laptops its implies that the cast are superior to technology sue to being incredible smart and not needing technology to research anything. However, by Leonard holding a laptop in the air it suggests that although they are superior to a laptop they still use it to their advantage. The cast for this series is clearly very male dominated suggesting that the men are more important that the females and that the society that they are in is still male dominated however the women are still superior to the laptops so are still extremely smart which still gives women a sense of power.

ROMANCE-
Our theme for this photo was Romance. We decided that picture showed romance as its quite a stereotypical thing to see in a romance movie such as The Fault in our stars. Its shows a happy couple laying on the grass laughing together. It depicts a classic romance.
The location is a plain grassy field filled with occasional daisies suggesting that its a peaceful, happy and carefree. It also suggests that its a fairly modern time period again suggesting the romance genre.
The themes for this photo are love, romance and love conquers all. its shows this as the couple has isolated themselves from everybody else in an empty field and despite the troubles in the outside world the couple is happy and in love with no cares.
Icons for this photo could be the white T-shirts as they show innocence due to white being a pure colour. However due to one wearing a black jacket that could suggest that there may be some more dark and complicated times to do with the girl.
Like a lot of cheesy Romance movies they way the story would be told is through a narrator, probably one of the character. The narrator would explain what's going on and give and introduction to the story to help the audience understand.
the character list would be very minimal, a boy and a girl (the main characters in love) and a few other characters such as parents and a few friends, very minimal.
The music would be very soft, quite and orchestral.

THRILLER

The theme for this photo was Thriller as so we decided to go for a very ominous look by having a very dark picture with just a little light behind the head of the girl.
the location is in a dark school hallway suggesting that whatever scary things that are going to happen will take place in the school. The themes for this picture are darkness, suspense and good vs evil. I feel that this photo mainly depicts Good vs Evil as the main character being a young girl is stereotypical for a thriller and by her being in darkness it shows that she's not the darkness she' facing the darkness. Icons for this picture could be the locker as it could show that something scary is particularly  going to happen in this hallway. Another icon for this photo is the blonde hair on the character in the photo as blondes are regularly presented to be a 'dumb blonde' however by her also wearing glasses it shows her intelligence because smart people are generally depicted with glasses so this could altogether suggest that this ' dumb blonde' is actually the smart one in this story and could be the one that resolves it all.

Summer task =

Task 1)

Image result for film posters
This film poster is very bright and eye catching. your eye is immediately drawn to the bright orange laser and therefore you want to acknowledge the whole poster.
The company is targeting children and teens which is another reason for using the bold colors. As well as that by all the characters being in a action pose it shows the viewer that this film is action packed whereas a more calm film may have a simplistic and muted design with minimal colour choices

Task 2)
The music for Deutschland 83 is very fast passes in which goes with the constant changing camera shots. nothing stays the same for too long before changing focus again. this makes the trailer appear very fast and action packed. whereas if it was a romantic genre then the frames would've been longer with more calm and relaxed music, probably something orchestral. I feel the part in the supermarket is the most interesting due to him looking in shock at the wide variety of fruit in the marker, something that most people are used to. The director has shown this by having a wide frame for this shot. it shows the huge amount of selection and how small he is in comparison. this the aggrandizes how big the outside world is, something that's he's clearly not used to. this creates a sense of anxiety in the character all due to the camera angle. as well as that by the mise en scene in the scene being mainly fruit it further adds to the scale of choice and escalates the amount of anxiety in the shot.

Task 3)
I thought this cover for the Daily Mail was particularly interesting  due to the bold pun used. By using the pun 'Trumpquake' it suggests that Trump causes so much destruction wherever her is that its almost like an earthquake. As well as that Earthquakes are a very negative and dangerous and so by suggesting Trump is like an earthquake it implies that trump is also negative and dangerous. Furthermore, by making that the Biggest and boldest thing on the cover our eyes are immediately draw to that first proposing that the makers of this newspaper wanted to advertise their negative opinions, something that many Newspapers do.

Are you beach body ready is clearly a way to discriminate any woman who isn't your stereotypical pretty girl (pretty, skinny, big boobs and bum) however 'this girl can campaign' is a way to inspire women of all body types and give the confidence rather that discriminate and make women feel bad about their body. The 'are you beach body ready?' campaign is not the right way to inspire people to become a fitter women should be comfortable in their own skin.
Task 4)
1-  The big six, in film making, refers to the top 6 best film companies. These companies include 20th century fox, warner bros, paramount pictures, Columbia pictures, universal pictures and Walt Disney pictures. However the 'big six' may probably end up being the 'big five' due to Disney planning on buying 20th century fox.
